![]() Web Pages (Retail)Every web-shop is different, but the following is a typical process for a retail customer. 1. Category PageThis is usually the entry point for retail customers. They are allowed to browse or search for products within categories without logging in. There are usually a number of links at the top of the page for Login, My Account, Shopping Basket, Checkout, Logout. A summary of the basket shows the number of items in the basket and the monetary value of those items. 2. Stock PageOnce products have been found they are shown on a shortlist with a thumbnail photo, stock code and description. 3. Stock Detail PageClicking on a thumbnail or ‘More Info’ link for a product opens up a new window which shows the product in more detail along with a larger image and price. There is also a quantity box and an ‘Add to Basket’ button. It is possible at this stage to have related items for up-sell and cross-sell. 4. Basket PageThe basket is accessible all through the ordering process and displays details of all products ordered thus far. It also shows the running total for the quantity of items and value of the order. Once the customer decides to buy, they must first register their personal details or login using their unique ID*. 5. Registration/Login PageThe first time a retail customer uses the web-shop, they must register their personal details including delivery address (after which they will be provided with a username and password*) before they proceed to the Checkout page. Alternatively, returning customers can click on a link to login. There is also a password reminder which will send an email if the user has forgotten their password. 6. Checkout PageCompleted order details are displayed and the customer chooses a payment method. 7. Terms & Conditions PageThe customers views and accepts the terms & conditions of sale. 8. PaymentThis page confirms the payment method and processes the transaction. For credit card payment, the customer is redirected seamlessly to a third party website, such as Worldpay, for credit/debit card processing, then returned to the Confirmation Page. 9. Confirmation PageThis page confirms the details of the order and generates an email confirmation for the customer and the online seller. The customer can also print the details. If the ecommerce solution is standalone, the seller will need to re-key the details into their back-office system and despatch the goods, if applicable, in the normal way. If the ecommerce solution is integrated, the back-office system will be updated automatically with the details of the sale. ![]() |
